Position Summary:The Mechanical Engineer Co-Op will be involved in the design and engineering of new wearable augmented reality devices, smart glasses, and their accessories and systems. The Co-Op will take part in various aspects of design and engineering of electro/mechanical/optical devices and their supporting systems, including concept work and prototyping, CAD design, testing, and transitioning from prototype to volume manufacturing at our facility. This position will also support the functions of the R&D - Mechanical Department to meet the requirements of the relevant ISO 9001:2015 standards based on the quality objectives established by Top Management.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Under the direction and guidance of a Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering Manager and Director of Product Development, learn to provide Mechanical Engineering support for various new and existing products and accessories.Design and modify mechanical portions of existing and future products and fixtures using SolidWorks CAD software.Create bills of materials, drawings, and supporting documentation.Collaborate with various R&D teams; Electrical, Optical, and Manufacturing Engineering to develop robust, accurate assemblies and systems that are optimized for size, performance, and DFMA.Analyze the tolerance stack up of complicated miniature assemblies and incorporate findings into design.Provide Engineering support to manufacturing/production groups in the form of collaboration on fixture design, testing, and assembly pilots.Design, assemble, and test prototypes and mock-ups using 3D printing and other rapid prototyping techniques.Design, complete, and document assembly and product level testing using molded prototypes and early production products.Support or conduct investigative and reliability testing to mechanical and/or thermal parts/assemblies.Help maintain and operate equipment used in engineering such as 3D printers, tools, and test equipment.Meet required ISO 9001:2015 standards and necessary training based on the relevant Quality Objectives.Competencies:To perform this job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:Written Communication - Read and interpret written information effectively, write clearly and concisely, adapt writing style for different audiences.Verbal Communication - Give focused attention to what others are saying, take time to understand what and respond when appropriate without interrupting, speak clearly and effectively express ideas and opinions, adapt and react professionally in both positive and negative situations.Teamwork & Collaboration - Balance team and individual responsibilities, consider others' views objectively and with openness to changing your own, give and encourage feedback, contribute to a positive team dynamic, prioritize team success over personal interests, work effectively across departments toward company goals.Professionalism - Interact with others in a considerate manner, follow through on commitments, react well under pressure and preserve confidentiality, control emotions, and accept responsibility, maintain focus on solutions and treat others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position. RequirementsMinimal Qualifications:Actively enrolled in a degreed program preferably in Mechanical Engineering, or related field.Self-motivated and driven to learn about new tools and concepts.Proficient in Parametric 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks.Basic hands-on mechanical proficiency.Preferred Qualifications:Junior or Senior in degree program.Prior related work experience or internship.Experience in AR, VR, or MR systems.Experience with electronic and/or optical systems.Supervisory Responsibilities: None.Travel: Negligible.Physical Demands: Frequently required to sit, speak, hear, see, and perform repetitive motion (data entry).
