Creates, produces and announces topics on the radio, including music, entertainment, politics, news, weather, sports, traffic and other topics of interest for Chicago's ROCK 95.5 WCHI-FM. Responsibilities include delivering newscasts; announcing radio playlist of musical selections; giving weather and traffic conditions; delivering sport scores, statistics and upcoming game information; commenting on music and other matters of interest to audience; interviewing musical personalities and members of listening audience; specializing in one type of music; writing, reviewing and/or editing news copy, introductions, public service announcements, commercials, pre-recorded reports, contests; participating in promotional events; operating control board for studios and remote programming; selling advertising space; regulating program timing, operating syndicated programming, playing commercials; monitoring technical quality and accuracy of on-air programming; censoring live programs to protect station’s license; processing time-out programming; checking studio equipment and notifying Engineering of malfunctions; handling emergency inserts such as news updates and breaking stories. Qualifications include being socially informed and perceptive, having a pleasant and charismatic voice with excellent pronunciation, well-rounded communication skills, ability to make others feel comfortable on air, excellent writing and editing skills, proficiency in media production and broadcast systems, Microsoft Office and social networking, possible selling skills and other language proficiency. Requires 1-2 years’ experience as an announcer in smaller market or college station environment and a 4-year college degree preferably in Communications or Broadcast Journalism.
