Under direction, provides direct nursing services in a clinical, geographic or programmatic area. Provides direct nursing care in an assigned area, using appropriate authorized nursing skills. Teaches, consults and acts as public health resource person to individuals, families, community groups and other health care professionals. Documents appropriate data, activities and outcomes in the client records, utilizing the required recording format. Works with clients to assess their needs, provide information or assistance and resolve problems. Assists in coordinating the activities of an assigned clinic and/or program area. Participates on selected agency committees as directed. Participates in the orientation of staff. Generates, evaluates and chooses the best alternative in order to make a determination, draw conclusions or solve a problem. Operates an automobile to perform assigned job functions. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited school, licensure or in process of licensure by the Michigan Board of Nursing, and minimum one year of professional nursing experience. Preferred experience includes public health or community health nursing. Competencies include knowledge of nursing principles and practices, technology applications, effective communication, decision-making, problem solving, and ability to communicate complex information. Work environment is primarily office or similar indoor environment with occasional exposure to hostile individuals and blood borne pathogens. Physical demands include frequent balancing, bending, grasping, manual dexterity, lifting up to 10 pounds, sitting, standing, and walking. The position is represented by the Michigan Nurses Associates bargaining unit.
