Position function: Reporting to the Product Manager – DADEX, the individual will be responsible for supporting the Product Management Team in building and growing the Dadex antioxidant solutions through formulation, optimization, and commercialization of antioxidant solutions, as well as analytical testing on various antioxidants, fats, oils, and finished human and pet food products.

Scope: The position will be responsible for leading and completing the R&D process of formulation and development of new products from the concept stage to prototype and full-scale production as well as ingredient matches and modifications for existing products for customers. This role will be an Integral R&D Scientist in the Product Management Team and will provide technology support both internal and customer facing.

Major tasks and duties:

  • Leading, developing and completing R&D projects with a focus on food preservation as defined by the Product Manager and R&D Lead.
  • Responsible for supporting the successful commercialization of new products and revisions to existing products.
  • Responsible for leading analytical laboratory activities such as sample preparation and analysis, method development, method validation, and supplies procurement for Dadex lab in Elgin, IL.
  • Collaborate with the Product Management Team to outline new product development and improvement projects
  • Collaborate with Product Management Team to develop, coordinate, prepare and present relevant concepts to customers featuring Caldic manufactured or distributed products
  • Participate in and/or lead product improvement initiatives to improve the quality of existing products in response to customer feedback, to improve product efficacy, nutritional value, colour, flavour, texture and convenience, or to improve cost efficiencies in the plant.
  • Participate in marketing activities such as trade shows, focus groups, new idea generation, researching market trends as they pertain to strategic business plan and new products
  • Provide technical support and expertise in problem solving for issues relating to product quality
  • Work closely with production, marketing, QA/QC in monitoring the performance of new products during post-launch activities in the New Product Process; may include troubleshooting, ingredient recommendations and customer site visits.
  • Provide preliminary product documentation including Specifications
  • Participate in joint calls and customer on-site trials as required.
  • Provide support with CDM’s and collaboratively works with and develops customer facing relationships and presentation skills.
  • Collaborates with the pricing team to understand cost and develop competitor R&D initiatives.
  • Complete all other duties as assigned by Product Manager and R&D Lead.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, GMP’s and HACCP requirements

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • University. M.Sc. – Chemistry, Food Science or equivalent is a strong asset
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of R&D experience in the food industry.
  • Experience in food preservation, with a focus on antioxidants and fats and oils, is a strong asset
  • Strong proficiency in statistical analysis is an asset
  • Commercial Sales experience is an asset
  • Must have strong oral/written communication and good interpersonal skills
  • A strong sense of accountability and flexibility in dynamic, high-paced settings with rapidly changing priorities is essential
  • Must have strong presentation skills
  • Must have strong computer knowledge and skills (MS Office)
