The Security Officer is responsible for the safety and security of all people and property in and around the healthcare facility. They remain aware of their surroundings at all times and make periodic rounds of property and facility. Helps maintain and control access to facility. Responds to emergency situations to provide assistance to the party in need. Performs building checks inside and outside the facility to reassure people of a security presence and ensure no problems on campus, maintaining interim life safety measures. Patrols parking areas regularly, alert for criminal activity or need for assistance. Assists stranded motorists with minor automobile problems. Aids in visitor control in the Emergency Department and other areas. Responds to calls for assistance and protects staff and others from injury due to conflict or confrontation. Takes control of dangerous situations using sound judgment and quick thinking. Assists medical staff in restraining patients as necessary. Performs BLS as needed. Serves as first responder to fire alarms, chemical spills, Code Blue, and Rapid Responses in public areas. Conducts preliminary investigations in hospital-related incidents and works with local law enforcement when needed. Maintains accurate records of daily activities and reports unusual incidents and criminal activity. Takes reports of vehicular accidents, missing property, and suspicious persons. Maintains the facility's lost and found. May secure valuable property and transport money to/from designated banks. Handles morgue pickups and releases to Funeral Homes and Coroner. Assists with landing and takeoff of Air Ambulance Services. Creates badging and troubleshoots issues. Reviews surveillance camera playback when necessary. Required education: High School Diploma/GED. Preferred: Vocational Technical Degree. Required certifications: BLS Certification and NAPPI training within first 6 months of hire; Annual AED Competency. Preferred: IAHSS Basic Security Certification or equivalent. Other skills: Computer skills.
