Job Description

Job Summary:

The Senior Electrical Designer will provide technical support including development, troubleshooting and review of 2D electrical schematics for power distribution and control systems as well as periodically supporting fabrication issues associated with construction of industrial, commercial marine, and naval vessel power and control systems. This role is ideal for a highly motivated individual with a foundational understanding of CAD software and a passion for developing design solutions and solving problems associated with power distribution and control systems.

Daily Duties/Responsibilities:

• Performs 2D and 3D modeling, drafting, and drawing tasks using parametric and traditional CAD software; experience with AutoCAD (2D) and SolidWorks (3D) is preferred.

• Works under the direction of senior engineering management staff, and or the designate to support the CAD needs of various projects.

• Applies understanding of mechanical and electrical systems to ensure comprehensive and integrated project designs.

• Familiarity with industry standards and regulations including IEEE, USCG and ABS (preferred).

• Proficiency developing electrical designs and schematics for power distribution, control systems, power conversion, communications, lighting and safety systems.

• Interpret vendor/fabricator shop drawings and interact with vendors to determine and source components for given projects.

• Produces professional drawings in compliance with accepted drawing standards when provided technical input and guidance.

• Assist with duties in the engineering fabrication shop during manufacturing of panels and switchboards as required to update working drawings or solve interference or design issues.

• Prepares or revises engineering drawings in accordance with the marked-up prints, sketches, or verbal instructions provided by senior staff.

• Creates multiple view drawings with appropriate details and section views, dimensions, and tolerances per department drafting standards.

• Responsible for physically measuring and documenting equipment sizes, locations and orientations and generating scaled electronic depictions of equipment layout as well as any interfacing systems (structure, mechanical, power, network).

• Correctly develops plan, section, and elevation views for drawings to adequately capture construction details of switchboards, drive cabinets, and control enclosures.

• Makes drawing changes to existing components and facilitate the release of ECN (Engineering Change Notice) to production.

• Assists by being versatile with other projects as required to create a productive, efficient and pleasant workplace.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with all levels of management.

• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

• Skillful in the use of 2D & 3D CAD software. In particular Auto CAD 2D, Rhino and SolidWorks.

• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar.

Education and Experience:

• Minimum of associate’s degree in related field plus eight years work experience using 2D and 3D CAD software in Marine, Industrial, or Aerospace industry supporting electrical power and integration design.

Security Requirements:

• U.S. Citizenship Required with willingness to work on DOD projects.

Physical Requirements: 

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

• Must be able to lift 25 pounds at a time.
