Reports to : Superintendent/Project Manager

Job Summary :

The Traveling Carpenter plays a crucial role in the construction and renovation of industrial and commercial projects by providing skilled carpentry work across various job sites. This position requires extensive experience in carpentry, the ability to travel frequently, and a strong commitment to safety and quality craftsmanship. The Traveling Carpenter will work closely with the Superintendent and other field personnel to ensure that all carpentry tasks are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities :

Carpentry Work : Perform all aspects of carpentry work, including framing, installing doors, windows, and trim, and constructing concrete forms. Ensure that all work is performed according to specifications, blueprints, and building codes.

Travel and Adaptability : Travel to various job sites as required, adapting to different working environments and project demands. Maintain flexibility to work on diverse projects, including industrial and commercial constructions.

Site Coordination : Collaborate with the Superintendent and other site personnel to ensure efficient workflow, timely material deliveries, and adherence to project schedules. Assist in resolving any on-site challenges related to carpentry.

Safety Compliance : Follow all company and regulatory safety procedures, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and attending regular safety meetings. Report any safety hazards or incidents immediately.

Quality Assurance : Ensure all carpentry work meets or exceeds industry standards and client expectations. Participate in punch list completion and final inspections to guarantee the quality and integrity of the work performed.

Tool and Equipment Maintenance : Maintain and care for all tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition. Report any damages or required maintenance to the Superintendent.

Qualifications :

Experience : Minimum of 5 years of carpentry experience, preferably in industrial and commercial construction. Experience in traveling roles is a plus.

Technical Skills : Proficient in using hand tools, power tools, and equipment required for carpentry work. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.

Communication and Teamwork : Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Willingness to collaborate with different teams across various job sites.

Licensing and Certifications : Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel as needed. OSHA 10-Hour Construction Training preferred or the ability to obtain upon hire.

Physical Requirements :

• Ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

• Prolonged periods of standing, bending, kneeling, and walking on uneven surfaces.

• Must be able to work in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and rain.

• Regular use of hands and arms to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.

Work Environment :

• Frequent travel to job sites across different locations, sometimes requiring overnight stays.

• Exposure to typical construction site conditions, including noise, dust, and potential hazards.

• Standard construction work hours with occasional overtime as required by project deadlines.
